Interior & Exterior Painting in Nelson
Transform your property with professional painting — smooth, durable finishes built on careful preparation and expert application.
Here is the thing about painting that nobody selling paint will tell you: the tin matters far less than what happens before it is opened. A premium product over poor preparation fails faster than a mid-range product over good preparation. Every time.
We come at painting from the plastering side of the trade, which means preparation is not the boring bit before the real work — it is the work. The paint is just the part you can see.
Exterior painting
A proper exterior job means:
-
Washing — Removing the mould, moss, salt and grime that stop paint bonding. Skip this and you are painting over the problem, not the surface.
-
Scraping and sanding — Taking back failed and flaking coatings to a sound edge, then feathering so the repair does not telegraph through.
-
Repairs and filling — Damaged timber, splits, gaps and failed sealant dealt with before coating, not after.
-
Priming — Bare timber and repaired areas sealed properly. Bare substrate under topcoat is the most common reason a repaint fails early.
-
Topcoats — Applied at the right build, in suitable conditions, to the surfaces that need them.
We paint weatherboards, joinery, doors, soffits, fascia, trim and fencing, on houses and commercial buildings.

Interior painting
Interior work is judged at close range, in good light, by people who live there — so the details are everything.
Straight cut-in lines, no bleed under the tape, even sheen across a whole wall, no roller marks where two sections met, and switch plates and fittings that go back on cleanly.
-
Whole-house repaints — Ceilings, walls, trim and doors brought back to a consistent finish throughout.
-
Single rooms — Kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, hallways and stairwells.
-
New builds — Painted straight after stopping, often by the same team, which removes the usual argument about whose defect a shadow line is.
-
Rentals and make-goods — Fast, hard-wearing repaints between tenancies.
-
Commercial interiors — Offices, retail and hospitality, scheduled around trading hours where possible.
How we work
Quote on site. We look at the surfaces, work out what preparation they actually need, and price that honestly. A quote that skips the preparation is not cheaper — it is just a bill you get later.
Protect. Furniture, floors, fixtures, joinery and planting all covered before anything starts.
Prepare. Wash, scrape, sand, fill, repair and prime. The stage that decides how long the job lasts.
Apply. Coats in the right order, at the right coverage, in conditions the product is designed for.
Inspect and touch up. Checked in daylight, edges and cut-in lines corrected.
Clean up. Fittings back on, coverings removed, the site left clean and the leftover paint labelled and left with you for future touch-ups.

Colour advice
Choosing colour from a chip in a shop is the reason so many people repaint a room twice. Light in Nelson is bright and comes off surrounding surfaces, so a colour that looked warm on a swatch can read cold and grey on a south-facing wall. We are happy to talk through options, and we always recommend testing a sample on the actual wall and looking at it at morning, midday and evening before committing.
